CHAPTER 13

BEARKIN TRIALS PART 1

Ikept Cam in my view as much as possible, but it was hard, seeing as we were tied up. The injury to Cam’s head bled freely, but I felt life in him still, so I didn’t worry yet. In the moment I thought he might be in true danger, then I would break my bonds and slay the entire hunting party if it meant he would be saved. But it hadn’t come to that, so we allowed ourselves to be taken to the chief. I tried my best not to be angry at people just doing their duty to their tribe.

If not for them leading us here, I might not have found this area set into the side of a cliff. He looked with a growl at the token around my neck from Grug, but he’d not made a move to remove it, so I felt like it had in fact helped us get to the chieftain without any bloodshed.

The entire hunting party escorted us into the cave and deep into the back where the entrance to another cave sat. In the middle of that room, our captive took Cam and threw him to the ground in front of another bearkin and I stood my ground, refusing to be bowed down when the powerful bearkin attempted to force me to a knee. I turned and bared my
